Gallatin Deux – July ’09
In the previous Gallatin Days post, I promised a few pix of the river’s residents, so here are two fish that defined the time…

There is something about the texture and swooping form of a net that adds so much to a fish shot (as does the ”shape-shifting” effect of water). While I’ve certainly done my fair share of “grip-n-grins,” I often prefer to focus more on the fish itself, and these shots are all about that.
For those who have seen my trout illustrations, you know that I also prefer to concentrate on a fish’s head. There is just something about each fish’s uniqueness and “personality” (especially when they are more mature) that I find so intriguing and memorable. The images of so many fish now wash through my mind that some day I’ll have to set pen to paper (or fingers to keys) and write a book about a few of them…
