Waiting Water

On my last (July) trip to western Montana, I was directed to some water that I had never fished. I knew about the place, had even seen the lower end of it, but had never wet a line in it. After an exploratory drive down the gravel road that parallels the flow, the stream became #1 on my August fish-list.
The river’s texture, color and clarity look as if someone scatteredĀ slabs of jadeĀ and semi-precious stones in the flow. It reminds me of a few of the rivers that I know in New Zealand, with deceptive wading and fish hiding in seemingly plain sight. Even as I write this, I know that its waters are waiting for me, and I am eager to return and begin to learn some of its secrets…
