Sulphur Loop-Wing (for Rusty)

A quick sketch of a Loop-Wing Sulphur, with thoughts of Rusty Gates and the spring hatches on the Au Sable.

Great sketch! Rusty will be missed by many as well as the river he fiercely defended.
Jeff—Thanks for the compliment, I don’t know how many loop-wings and other dries that I’ve floated down the Au Sable over the years, but it’s been a lot! Hard to imagine fishing the Au Sable without stopping in at the Lodge first to do two key things: See Rusty and order a bowl of the White Chili, in that order…
I have fished the AuSable and stayed at Gates Lodge every year for the past 12 years. This next trip up I will be hard not to look at every trout and thing of the man who fought so hard to defend their home. I spent many a morning sharing a cup with Rusty before the shop opened to discuss my previous evening fishing. Your sketch inspired me to draw up a Rusty’s Spinner. I will have to post it up on the blog.
