Sketches on Sketches – Brown #1
One of my favorite ways to illustrate is to rough sketch with an added story line. Two more like this yet to come (previous one already posted). Those of you who own Presentation have already seen these, but expect a bunch more in the new books.
Below is a color version of the above (from a series of hand-colored prints that I did). I only have a small image, but I think that it still shows how the color adds to the sense of the sketch (the color also being applied with speed, and not too much fussing).

when my dad died, we found a folders and folders of loose scraps of paper with things like this on them. Most of the time these were fishing related. A start of a pen-and-ink sketch with some handwritten notes to himself (or whoever?). I think it shows a lot about how his (and your) brain work. It brings me home. Thx.
Jeff—Sounds like your dad had a lot of small, but bright moments in his head that he wanted to express with his sketching. I definitely get that. I’m pleased that the “sketches on sketches” create a certain sense of time and place for you…
Nice buddy, good sketches
well…i just now read the words, very cool that your dad drew those…cool to know you are carrying on the drawing spirit he had.

Paul—Thanks, I truly appreciate it!
