I think he had a persona that really stuck with a lot of people. I have a <i>long</i> mental fishing film reel of memories of Dick over the years, and all them involve his endless smile, his desire to see others succeed, and a truly unique style (talkin' about that perfectly starched and pressed khaki uniform that I have not seen matched since the 19th century. I often gave him a hard time about it, but that was just part of our friendship).
