Bunyan Bug Reject

jborger_ftf-buyanbug

Bunyan Bug illustration from the first round of drawings that I did for the upcoming book, Fishing the Film. Once this drawing (and a bunch of others like it) were placed in the layout, we felt that it was too “heavy” for the look and feel of the text. So, it became a reject. Of course, I’ll use it as a basis for another drawing, but I thought that a few FF&W readers might like to have a look at the first try. I’ll post some of the other Fishing the Film “rejects” over the next several weeks.

  1. Jason,
This is quite a supplement for my temporal memory loss. As I am heading to Madison late in June for Salmonfly hatch (I might be using big nymphs), I was day-dreaming about this fly but couldn’t remember the name temporarily, yet lazy enough to go back to the book or DVD. Here it is. But also I recall Paul was fishing with wet flies for stoneflies at the end of the book?? My favorite way… I may have to go back to the book again.
I will read the link more and see if I can tie or imitate one just for fun.

Satoshi—The BB (try various sizes and colors if you get the urge) is a cool fly to have in the box (even just for one trip). Not exactly a quick tie in the back of the truck, though. A friend in Wisconsin ties them up for coho in eye-searing orange. He catches salmon on them, so they certainly have some latitude in application (think bass, too).
