Drawing Flies 52 – 22_Doctor Oatman
Drawing Flies 52 Doctor Oatman. A really cool streamer pattern that just begs to be drawn or painted lovingly over the space of a day or two. Jeff and I had 30 minutes.
Tech info: Pentalic paper with four different pens (Pigma in 02, 05, 1, and “brush tip”) and watercolor. I’ll add some more info when my eyes aren’t quite so bleary, but I can tell you that I used all 30 minutes fully and didn’t get it done. The hook is underway, but not there, and the wing and tail were rushed hard right at the end (after I realized that I had eaten up too much time elsewhere). Wanted to get the top of the wing highlighted to provide better dimensionality, but the clock said “no way.” At least the brush-tip pen made really fast work of the feathered, black background. If I’d been forced to paint the background, I’d never had made as far as I did.
Jeff’s Doc Oatman is here (including the vise—nice touch)!

JB- Great job on the long fly! This one sucked me in also. Right to the 30 minute mark. Your tinsel work came out great! So what will it be for this week?
Jeff—Thanks for the compliments. The Oatman was a great suggestion, thanks for that! So how about a Sofa Pillow next?
