A Casting Field Sky
One of the reasons I love to fish is water—the sound, the feel, the smell, the sight of it. Indeed, there are days when fishing is slow and I find myself just watching the water, rod behind my back, hoping perhaps for a rise, but simply enjoying the flow as it fills my senses. But water is not the only flow that surrounds an angler. The air and the sky, too, are constant companions that bring with them their own sensations and moods to an angling day. In many ways, they serve as a echo to water.
On those days when I have no water for company, and no fish to lead me on, the air and sky return me to the places I love and always wish to be. A cool evening spent on a casting field is transformed into thoughts of a day long ago, with the last light reflecting from the rings of a rise and the breeze calling out memories of a far-away summer.
