The DF52 Project for 2011

Would you be amazed if I told you that I drew this in 30 minutes? So would I! Sorry, but don’t expect this type of thing in the new DF52 project. Still, I think we’ll be able to pull off some nice work for our respective readers in 2011.

Yes, Jeff Kennedy and I are indeed doing another DF52 project for 2011: Drawing Fish 52. We decided that we needed a break from flies, so we’re doing gamefish this year—52 of them in all. There will cold-water, warm-water and saltwater fish represented. We’ll do the common to the rare, and as with the DF52 fly-based project, we’ll be limiting drawing/painting time to 30 minutes maximum. Unlike that project, though, we’ll be leaving it up to each of us as to how we’ll represent each fish. That is, we can do headshots, half-bodies, full fish, static shots, action, whatever. We feel that will keep things mixed up a bit more without losing the spirit of the original DF idea.

So, start watching for Drawing Fish 52 every Thursday in 2011, starting on January 6!

Yes, that will certainly be awesome! I haven’t missed one Thursday’s fly during 2010 – often checking in several times (except when I’ve been out on field work) during the day to see the new fly.

CAn’t wait for the fish :-)

Suberb. Something else to look forward to in the new year!

Thanks for the kind words about the old and new “DF” projects. Jeff and I figure that the fish will keep things interesting. Looks like we’ll be starting with a straight-up rainbow trout (a leopard rainbow is on my list for later), which is as good a place as any to begin. Looking forward to mixing things up with gamefish from all walks of angling!
