DF52 Bonefish Revisited

Okay, this is more of what I was after originally with the DF52 bonefish. Should have just kept going down the pencil route last Thursday and skipped the color all together. Too many distractions in those 30 minutes and I lost sight of the fish’s core structure. Got the head more of the way that I wanted on this one.
I also wanted to revisit this angle again, too, since it comes from a photo that I like (thanks to Coach Duff at Hawaiian Bonefishing). I have a hi-res version of the photo of this fish, and I just went back and had a good look at how the fish’s head slopes at this angle. It’s trickier than a pure profile drawing, and I really wanted to get it right (or as close as I was going to get in a one-off shot at it again). I also pulled some bits from another Hawaiian fish.
Some might ask why I’d do an Hawaiian bone specifically, especially since I have a pile of other bone pix at my disposal to use as references. I guess I’m just intrigued by the location, the stories of monster bones as yet un-landed, and the fact that a friend is so closely associated with it all. I’m also probably feeling like I should have already visited Coach in Hawaii to get my own pix! It’s on the list….
For the technically minded, the pic is mechanical pencil with liquid-paper pen on a Moleskine page. Less than 30 minutes, so at least it adheres to the DF52 rules even if it doesn’t count.
