Drawing Fish 52 – 12_Lake Trout

Drawing Fish 52 lake trout. A good choice for this week, I think, given the on-going issues and discussions concerning the lake trout problem in Yellowstone.

Notes: Went with a style that I’ve been employing for a few of the 30-minute fish. Fast and open, but it still has a sense of detail that is enhanced by adding color to the blank areas. There is a single line on the fish that created all of main spotting patterns without a lift in the pencil (starts below the eye, goes all around the gill plates, ends up on top of the fish’s back). Sort of irrelevant to the end result, but I thought it was something interesting to do as an illustrator.

Tech Info: Pencil and watercolor on vellum.

Available for Purchase? Not any more (thanks, Flynn).

Jeff’s laker is here.

Flynn—Thanks again for your purchase, but I’ve got three six more fish portraits coming up today real soon now, and if you prefer one of those more than the laker, just let me know and I’ll gladly swap it out.

Waiting for the (near record-breaking) rain to stop here… I may just have to swing some lead-core off the I-5 bridge for springers….
